Mr. Becker recommends the OSF summer program for Juniors! Applications are due April 2. Click here to apply
Every year at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, a select group of 65 students just completing their junior year in high school participate in two intensive weeks of activities designed to introduce them to the many aspects of professional theatre. These activities include forums, workshops, discussions and playgoing events taught by members of the OSF company, they also see nine plays. The 2012 Summer Seminar will be held July 30 – August 11. The fee of $1,975 includes tickets to the plays, all the other events and room and board at Southern Oregon University. Flexible tuition is available.
Students must be recommended by teachers and/or other adults, and must complete an application which requires thought and self‑examination. (The application deadline is April 2, 2012, all items must be postmarked by that date.)
We are seeking students of diverse backgrounds. We believe our programming can only be enriched by having a more diverse group of students participating.

JUDGE NEEDED for the following festival
Bringing Words to LifeHackberry Hill Oral Interpretation Festival
Grades K-3 Performance
Wednesday, February 1st Grades 4-6 Performance
Thursday, February 2nd
Oral Interpretation Festival is a celebration of oration, promotes interest in literature, and builds self-esteem. Each participant will select and memorize a piece of literature, then perform the piece on stage for an audience. Participants may perform individually or in a group within their grade. Oral Interpretation performances are scheduled to be held in the school gym starting at 6:00 pm on February 1st and 2nd although the performances may be combined on the same evening, depending on the number of participants. There will be a dress rehearsal performance at school for the student body during the week of the evening performance. Precise dates and times of rehearsals/performances to be announced.
Literary Selections may include poetry, prose, speeches, monologues, excerpts from books or plays, and picture books adapted for oration. Participants must choose a piece that is appropriate to perform at school, does not require props, and is not longer than 3½ minutes. This is not a memorization contest; emphasis should be on the interpretation of the piece, not the length of the piece. Children are more motivated to memorize/perform a piece of their own choosing and of interest to them, rather than a piece picked for them by their parents.
To participate in the Oral Interpretation Festival, email student’s name, grade, and teacher to ramjetwooten@aol.com with “Oral Interp” in the subject line. Interested students will receive an Oral Interpretation Contract which must be completed and returned to the school office by Friday, January 6, 2012. An Oral Interpretation Contract is required for each participant, even if the student is participating in a group. Participants must perform at both the dress rehearsal and evening competition, and dress in plain black or white on top/black on bottom. Props are not allowed and performances must not exceed 3½ minutes.
Judging Criteria: Performances will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Verbal Delivery - Speaks audibly, clearly and effectively. Adjusts rate, tone, projection,
inflection, volume, adds pauses to the performance. Fully memorized.
Non-verbal Delivery - Integrates effective gestures, posture, eye contact and
movement to support the performance.
Content - Selection is appropriate, interesting and challenging. Length and vocabulary are ambitious & appropriate for orator’s grade level. Not longer than 3½ minutes.
