Beginning-
After observing Ms. Hann's directing process throughout Pink Panther, the 8th graders are now trying out their hand as directors.  Guided by Ms. Hann, they are doing a mini-production book to introduce them to the directing process they will ultimately follow as seniors.   Also being taught is time management, leadership, how research impacts a production, and being responsible for another person's process/experience.
6th/7th graders were guided by Mr Becker into what to expect with a student director and how to handle a short rehearsal process.
The scenes being used were written by the 8th grade Creative Writing majors who had their first taste of listening to someone interpret their works on Monday as they sat in on rehearsal for the first time.  Valuable to the directors in that they and their actors could ask all sorts of questions.
The scenes will be performed in the Joe during class on April 18-20 and you are welcome to attend. Class begins at 7:35 to 9AM.

ASSIGNMENTS

FESTIVAL OF WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS CREATIVE RESPONSE    DUE Tuesday, March 6

Create a one page CREATIVE response to the following questions:

Share one moment in EACH play that you thought was outstanding and why
Share a question(s) that any of the plays brought to your mind
Does that fact that these plays were written by women mean anything different then if they were written by men?

Your paper MAY NOT just be paragraphs or bulleted Question and Answer.
It MAY BE a poem, series of limericks, series of haiku, text collage, comic strip, a mini play; BUT it must fit on one page. It DOES NOT have to be double spaced or 12 point font for this assignment (but please include you name/grade)

For this assignment you will only be graded down if you:

Misspell the titles, characters, actors, or playwrights names.
    Don't address the required content.
    Go over one page.

Remember that whatever you come up with goes into your binder so make sure it fits!

VOCAL TESTS - You are graded on the ones listed at the top of the page on a 5 point scale

5 = complete success, 4 = moderate success, 3 = valid attempt, 2 = attempted, 1 = didn't try or know the exercise

I am looking for the following with each:
• SEAGULL - that I hear the 4 distinct resonance qualities (nasal, normal open, yawn/depressed larynx, reverse megaphone.
• RAPID [g], [k] - that you can do it rapidly without the jaw moving up and down
• TONGUE TWISTERS - that you can do them at a moderately fast rate with NO pauses between each one

These tests are a portion of your Exam grade.

FALL SEMESTER FINAL EXAM

The Beginning Exam for this Semester will be comprised of a reflection paper that contains the following components:

   1.The Vocal Tests
   2. A Goal Evaluation Paper that follows theses guidelines:
   3. A 1-2 page list and/or paper in which you discuss what your goals are for the rest of the year.

Using the rubrics and feedback you have been given in class write down what you have been told concerning how you do in these areas AND how you feel that you do (you must address all areas):
       Attitude & Focus in class
Showing up to class on time
       Being prepared for class/projects
       Turning work in on time
       Working with others
Diction, volume, and use of voice when performing
       Movement class/Use of body
       Honesty onstage
Habits when performing (pacing, eye focus wandering, etc.)

Create a list of at least 3 goals (no more than 5) that you are going to work on for next semester in theatre.Discuss the challenges you are facing  in accomplishing them and how you plan on overcoming them. FOR EXAMPLE:  Goal #1: I am going to try and maintain a positive attitude even when I feel upset with someone in my grade.  I am going to do this by keeping a joke book in my locker so that every day I can make myself laugh to get into a better mood before going to class.

TURN your paper in by placing it in your Theatre Binder (which you MUST turn in on the 12th) under the Self Evaluation Section.
